HC directs police to register complaint against IAS officer

Madras High Court today directed central crime branch police to register a case on a complaint against an IAS officer, the deputy secretary in the transport department, for allegedly taking Rs 50 lakh as bribe from a doctor on the promise of securing his daughter an MBBS seat.
"Considering the facts of the complaint the respondent Police is directed to register a case and proceed further with the Investigation," Justice R S Ramanathan said.
The judge stated this when a criminal original Petition filed by one Dr M A Nizar Ahammed came up before him for hearing.
Dr Nizar Ahmed alleged that V Mohanraj, Deputy Secretary, Transport Department,had in the start of 2013-14 academic year, promised to get an MBBS seat for his daughter in a prestigious private college here and demanded Rs 50 lakh, which he had paid.

Despite a lapse of time, as there was no information on the admission of his daughter following which he demanded that the money be returned.
After repeated follow ups Mohanraj issued two cheques each for Rs 25 lakh, which were dishonored by him.
Though he filed a complaint with Police, they had not taken any steps as the man was an officer with influence, he submitted.
Hence he moved the court, seeking a direction to the Police to register a case.
