The Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court today issued notice to the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust seeking its reply to a petition which alleges use of sub-standard ghee in the preparation of ladoo prasad which is distributed to visitors at the Sai Baba temple here.
Every year, ghee worth over Rs 40 crore is used for preparing these ladoos, it says.
The reply to the notice, issued on a PIL filed by Sandeep Kulkarni and Rajendra Gondkar, is to be filed on April 6.
The PIL alleges that in 2012-13, the trust found that ghee purchased from two companies was sub-standard. It was discarded, causing a huges loss.
The petitioners have urged the court to direct the Trust to purchase ghee of well-known brands so that the prasad does not harm the devotees.
The Trust had recently purchased ghee from a Uttar Pradesh-based company as it had offered the product at low rates. However, a lab test found it to be sub-standard, the petitioners said.
