German-born British and American Booker prize-winning novelist and two-time Academy Award-winning screenwriter, Ruth, is perhaps best known for her long collaboration with Merchant Ivory Productions, made up of director James Ivory and the late producer Ismail Merchant.
'Shakespeare Wallah', the 1965 film, which was directed by Ivory and produced by Merchant, also starred Felicity Kendal, Madhur Jaffrey and Geoffrey Kendal.
The story was about a traveling family theatre troupe of English actors in India, who performed Shakespeare plays in towns across India, amidst a dwindling demand for their work and the rise of Bollywood.
