Aiming to spread awareness and take designs to the masses, India's first 'Design Yatra', launchedby the Institute of Indian Interior Designer (IIID),will be in the city for three days from today.
Launched on February 20 this year, the yatra will travel to 29 cities across the country by February 2017, covering 15,000 kms in three cars.
Competitions, heritage walk, talks and interaction with students have been organised between October 29 and 31.
Members will visit different places to give design inputs to make specific locations and public places in the city more user-friendly.
"We have decided to take design to the cities. Design can change the way we look at cities and its problems. The purpose of the yatra is to engage with local communities", IIID National Secretary and architect Jabeen L Zacharias said in a release today.
Babu Cherian, IIID Chairman, Kerala chapter, who is also an architect, said the rally was aimed at inspiring people to design houses, schools, hospitals and public places in such a way that they present local culture, consider convenience of people and save the environment.
"The IIID has played a crucial role in shaping the nation's design policies and trends in the right direction," he said.
The design yatra will leave for Karnataka onNovember 11, after visiting Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram, the release said.
