According to police, the attack from the members of the mining mafia took place when, following a tip-off that some persons were carrying out illegal sand mining near Naurangpur village, a team was sent to arrest the offenders.
The gang members opened fire on the raiding party, drawing retaliation, even though nobody was injured in the exchange, police said, adding that the miscreants managed to flee the spot. A truck loaded with sand was seized during the raid.
