Immersion of Ganesh idols ends amid tight security

Immersion of six remaining Lord Ganesh idols here was held by the district administration amidst tight security today as tension continued in the town following a series of clash between the members of two communities.
Balasore Superintendent of Police Niti Sekhar said the idols were taken to the water bodies by noon for immersion and no procession was allowed in view of Eid.
The administration also did not allow any procession on Eid yesterday though prayers were conducted under tight security covers.
The town witnessed clash during the immersion of a Ganesh idol following brick batting and altercation between groups, as a result, the six idols could not be immersed on the night of September 9.

Meanwhile, some shops were set on fire at Soro which led to extension prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC to other areas. Restriction on movement between 6 PM to 6 AM remain imposed for the third day.
Till today, 13 people have been arrested and about 30 detained for violating law and order situation in Soro area, police said.

Meanwhile, situation at the steel city of Rourkela, where clashes during immersion were reported on Tuesday, was under control today as prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC remained in force in vulnerable areas, said Superintendent of Police Anirudha Singh.
The administration ordered closure of shops by 6 PM in the main business zone on Main Road in old Rourkela, where trouble broke out, police said.

Besides, police has instructed that no bike will carry more than one rider between Madhusudan Chowk and Ambedkar Chowk, the main business district of the city, as prohibitory orders were in force, he said.
Rourkela Sub-Collector Himansu Sekhar Behera said the administration is prepared to deal with any situation. "Anyone seen violating prohibitory orders will be taken into custody. On behalf of the administration, I appeal to all not to heed any rumour and maintain peace.
