India remain on top in BFAME Bridge Championship

Hosts India led by Kiran Nadar, maintained their top position in the Open category of 17th Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East (BFAME) championship here today.
Indian Seniors also continued to lead the field for the third consecutive day scoring a total of 112 VPs and are followed by Bangladesh (94), Pakistan (77.5) and Sri Lanka (75.5) respectively while in the women's division, Pakistan regained the lead with a margin of one point against the hosts with Sri Lanka and Bahrain remaining at third and last position respectively.
In the Open event, Bangladesh, the youngest team at this BFAME with an average of about 40 years who were lying at the 4th spot after fifth round with 80 Victory Points (VPs) yesterday, put up commendable performance thereafter to move to the second position with 140 VPs after the league leader India who continued to be at the top of the table with 165 VPs.
Sri Lanka are at the third spot with 128 VPs and are followed by Bahrain( 1250, UAE (115) and Kuwait. Last year's holders Pakistan continued to be at the bottom with 73 VPs.
Bangladesh Open team represented by Mirza Sajid Ispahani, A H M Kamruzzaman, Md. Zahid Hossain, Shah Ziaul Haque, Md. Asifur Rahman Chowdhury and Md. Mashiur Rahman beat Bahrain by 2 4- 6 VPs in the 6th round and then edged past Kuwait collecting 16 VPs against 14 by the latter. In the 8th round they totally outplayed last year's winners Pakistan by 25- 0 VPs.
