An Indian-origin man was today charged with the murder of a fellow Sikh who was stabbed in Manchester city this week and succumbed to injuries on his 63rd birthday.
Ujjal Singh died from the fatal knife wound to the neck after he was found in Crumpsall area of Manchester earlier this week.
Naunihal Singh, 53, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody until he appears at Manchester Magistrates Court.
"Ujjal Singh sadly passed away on December 1, the day of his 63rd Birthday," Singh's family said in a statement.
A 37-year-old man, held on suspicion of murder, has been bailed until February next year.
Another man arrested on suspicion of the murder remains in police custody for questioning.
Ujjal Singh's family paid tribute to him, praising "his ability to interact with his elders, his peers and also the younger generation".
"He will be fondly remembered by all his family, he will never be replaced and never be forgotten," his family added.
He is survived by his wife, four children, nine grandchildren and a great-grandson.
"The investigation will still continue until we fully understand exactly what happened," Deputy Inspector Chris Wood said.
"We have now made two arrests, but the investigation will still continue until we fully understand exactly what happened," police said.
