South African Airways, which ferried 20 Indians from Ebola-hit Liberia on its flight from Johannesburg to Mumbai this morning, said all the passengers had been allowed to fly onwards after a thorough screening for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) after their arrival in Johannesburg.
"Twenty Indian passengers who had travelled from Liberia were continuing their onward journey to Mumbai via Johannesburg on-board SA284. These passengers were screened for EVD symptoms when they arrived from Liberia in Johannesburg and were found to have no symptoms indicating EVD," South African Airways Country Manager Sajid Khan said in a statement here.
South African Airways flight SA284 arrived at the Mumbai International Airport at 0005 hours.
Following the outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa, the South African National Department of Health is on high alert and would like to assure all tourists travelling to South Africa about all precautions being taken to prevent the EVD, the statement said.
"We request all tourists to not panic," it said.
With no case of EVD reported in the country, South Africa remains open and completely safe for all planning to visit the nation, it said.
