Nandigama assembly bypoll: Congress decides to field candidate

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has decided to field B Baburao as its candidate from Nandigama assembly constituency by-election, it was officially announced here today.
In a press release issued here, the party said that that the decision was taken at a meeting held in Hyderabad on Tuesday under chairmanship of APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy.
The release said that this is an opportunity for the Congress party and its cadre to focus on the failures of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to implement its election promises.
Meanwhile, the YSR Congress has stayed away from this by-election to honour the tradition of allowing a family member of the deceased legislator to get elected unanimously.

The bypoll is necessitated due to the sudden demise of Tangirala Prabhakara Rao who was elected on a TDP ticket in the recently held general elections for the second time. He died on June 15 even before taking oath as a legislator.
The TDP has fielded Tangirala Sowmya, the daughter of Prabhakara Rao, as its candidate for the bypoll.
