The government is following a deadline according to which complete digitisation will be ushered in the cable sector by the end of this year for which an estimated 12 crore STBs are needed.
However, in the first two phases of the digitisation drive which covered the major cities of the country, a vast majority of the STBs used were imported from other countries.
After taking over, Javadekar has repeatedly emphasised that encouraging indigenous production of STBs is a priority.
"Listened to the grievances of STBs Manufactures & issues in # indigenisation of Digitisation. We'll work for resolving them," Javadekar tweeted after the meeting.
