"It's an interim arrangement but the majority of the senior BCCI officials showed faith in me which in turn encouraged me to take up this role in this challenging time. I am fully confident that I will perform the duties to the best of my abilities and do justice to the role," Patel, who is the secretary of Baroda Cricket Association, told PTI.
Asked how difficult it will be to take up this role at a juncture when Indian cricket has been rocked by betting and spot-fixing scandal, Patel answered: "Agreed the time is difficult but we will have to work hard to regain the faith of millions of cricket crazy fans who have been shaken by this controversy.
Patel also informed that the outgoing secretary Sanjay Jagdale has spoken to him.
"I have spoken to Sanjay and he had assured me that he will providing me with all help so that I can run the office of secretary smoothly," he said.
To a query that whether he had worked with newly-appointed BCCI's Working Group chief Jagmohan Dalmiya earlier, Patel replied, "I have known Mr. Dalmiya for more than a decade now. I have been regularly attending important BCCI meeting since 2002. I have also been a member of the BCCI's finance committee for 4 years. I believe I have the experience to work in an efficient manner.
