"We are looking for Joint Ventures in Delhi and especially in Bengaluru to enhance and develop distribution of wine across the country," Moncaro President Doriano Marchetti told PTI here.
Marchetti said the company would soon tieup with Madhuloka Liqour Boutique.
"We will in the next 35 to 40 days forge a Joint Venture with Madhuloka Liquor Boutique to enhance and develop distribution of wine, especially Bengaluru," he said.
Madhuloka operates a chain of 24 outlets in the city and as of December sells about 1,000-1,200 cases every month.
Marchetti said given South India's retail strength of having over 56 per cent of India's liquor and wine retail stores and passion in opting for fine wine, such a foray is sure to be a connoisseurs delight to Moncaro and wine enthusiasts alike.
Apart from Maduloka, Moncaro is also in talks with a few distributors in Delhi.
"In Delhi, we are already working with a distributor, but also in talks with a few others to enhance distribution in northern parts of the country. Ultimately we will sign one or two distributors based on the kind strategy they suggest us," he said.
The company is open to any kind of alliances and tie ups to market their products in India. It is also open to the transfer of know-how and tradition of wine making to local companies -- which they had done earlier in Sangli in Maharashtra.
After creating a significant niche for themselves in the international wine market, Moncaro expanded its reach to China through a Joint Venture in 2009 and has over 15 flagship stores in major cities in China, Marchetti said.
Asked if the company has plans to look beyond importing the products and set up a production units in India, Marchetti said it has no such plans, but the options are open if government policy proves to be conducive.
