Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today reviewed the security and other arrangements for the upcoming annual Amarnath pilgrimage, starting later this month.
The governor, who is the chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, visited the Sheshnag Yatra camp and held discussions with officers of the Army, BSF, CRPF, JK Police and other departments and reviewed the security and other arrangements, an official spokesman said.
He said the Governor directed the camp director and other functionaries of the Board to ensure effective sanitary arrangements and disposal of degradable and non-biodegradable garbage.
The Governor took an aerial recce of the yatra route to observe the repair work which is under way and, thereafter, landed in Pahalgam from where he proceeded, by road, to Chandanwari and inspected the ongoing work to establish the control gate Chandanwari and set up the facilities, the spokesman said.
He said the Governor directed the camp director Chandanwari to strictly ensure that the control gates shall be opened and closed as per the time schedule already settled and that he, along with the police and security officials, must see that no person without a valid permit was allowed to enter the tracks.
After the visit to Chandanwari, Vohra held a meeting at the base camp, Nunwan, the spokesman said.
The yatra is scheduled to begin on June 29.
The Governor asked the deputy commissioner and chief medical officer Anantnag to ensure that every medical camp is equipped with the required medical and para-medical man power and equipment.
The Governor also held discussions with chief executive officer, Shrine Board, civil and police officers on several matters, the spokesman said.
He said Vohra specifically directed deputy inspector general of police, south Kashmir range, to ensure perfect coordination with CRPF and the Traffic Police and secure adequate advance information about all yatra related vehicular movements from Banihal onwards towards Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
