Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's economic advisor Heizo Takenaka will deliver the next IISS-Oberoi Lecture in Mumbai on March 25 during which he would speak about the fiscal and monetary stimulus package as proposed by his PM for revival of the country's economy.
Since his re-election in December 2012, Abe has sought to impress financial markets with a strong fiscal and monetary stimulus package - nicknamed 'Abenomics' - designed to revive the economy and end nearly 20 years of stagflation.
"Economic and financial analysts around the world have been waiting to see if Abenomics will finally end Japan's long winter of slow growth and enable Japan to recover its place as the world's second largest economy, a slot it lost to China two years ago," said a statement.
Takenaka, a well-known economist, is credited with helping restore confidence in Japan's banking system when he had held several ministerial posts including economic and finance in the government.
He was in the cabinet of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi between 2001 and 2005.
Former President of World Bank Robert Zoellick, deputy Prime Minister and finance minister of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam, CEO of European Financial Stability Facility Klaus Regling, former Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd among others have delivered the IISS Oberoi Lectures series.
