Jaya seeks PM's intervention to end NLC strike

Tamil Nadu government has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to end the strike by trade unions of Neyveli Lignite Corporation "at the earliest" in the interest of the industrial climate of the state and also in ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa told Modi in a letter yesterday that Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited is one of the main sources of power for Tamil Nadu and about 1450 mw is procured by the state from the NLC Complex.
"I have been given to understand that the wage settlement for NLC workers is due from January 1, 2012 and though they have been given interim relief in June 2014, their wage settlement has not been made so far. I have also been informed that NLC is a profit making Public Sector Undertaking."

She requested Modi to instruct the Ministry of Coal to immediately look into the grievances of the NLC workers and settle the issue amicably "at the earliest" in the interest of the state's industrial climate of the state and also in the interest of ensuring uninterrupted power supply to Tamil Nadu.
The state government released a copy of the letter to the media today.
The workers belonging to the recognised unions of NLC have gone on indefinite strike from July 20 seeking an early and satisfactory wage revision settlement, she said.
