The idol of the temple diety Goddess Kali was not damaged but the jewellery adorning it was stolen along with a bell-metal idol of Lord Krishna from the premises late last night while the curfew, imposed since the violence between Bodos and migrants began, was on, the police said.
The robbers entered through the rear gate and broke open the main door of the temple at Bilasipara.
Police have launched a massive search in the district to nab the culprits.
A similar incident occurred in the town last month when Rs 6 lakh were looted from another Kali Temple on R K Mission Road.
