Parents of Karuna Kumar, who was stabbed to death with scissors in broad daylight in North Delhi's Burari area earlier this week, today met Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain and demanded appointment of special public prosecutor to ensure speedy trial of the case.
After the meeting, Jain said the parents have made some demands which the Delhi government will look into, adding that criminals have "no fear" of law.
"A criminal stabbed to death a girl in broad daylight as criminals have no fear of law. Parents of the victim made some demands including appointment of special public prosecutor so that there is speedy trial in the case," Jain said here.
A Delhi Police constable Ram Niwas was yesterday suspended for allegedly leaking the video footage of the stabbing of Karuna by 34-year-old Surender Singh, who attacked her nearly 22 times in a span of two minutes as passersby looked on.
Ram Niwas was suspended after it was found that he had made the video of the CCTV footage of the incident on his phone and shared it with media, a police officer said.
The footage had allegedly incited the family members and the locals of the area who carried out a protest on September 21.
The incident drew outrage as CCTV footage of the frenzied stabbing by Singh was aired by media, prompting the Centre to seek a report from Delhi Police.
