"We have observed the day as 'Protest Day' during which nearly 85,000 lawyers stayed away from their work in the High Court at Jabalpur and its benches at Indore and Gwalior besides in the district and subordinate courts across the state," the State Bar Council President, Shivendra Upadhyaya told PTI.
Incidents of attack on lawyers are on the rise in the state, Upadhyaya said adding the government should constitute a special team to probe such attacks.
Upadhyay said the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh's pointed out that the Advocates Protection Act is pending for a long time and the government should table it in the ongoing monsoon session of the state assembly to convert it into a law to instill confidence among the legal fraternity.
