The Left Front today said it would not be possible to accompany West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on her visit to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek a debt waiver.
"We are not going to accompany her to meet the Prime Minister as we know that it doesn't bear any result. During our rule too we had met then prime minister and finance minister. It didn't produce any result," leader of the Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra told reporters.
The Chief Minister had yesterday invited opposition leaders to accompany her on a visit to Delhi to plead with the Prime Minister for a waiver on the huge debt it was having to pay each month, which takes away a lion's share of its revenue.
The Congress Legislative Party, on the other hand, said that it would accompany the Chief Minister only if it got a specific invitation.
"If we get a specific invitation, we will surely accompany her. During the Left rule too we had accompanied the ministers of the then state government to meet Prime Minister and finance minister. Then the TMC MLAs had not accompanied the Left ministers," state Congress leader Manas Bhunia pointed out.
Lone BJP MLA Samik Bhattacharya said he would accompany the state government delegation to meet the Prime Minister.
