Lokayukta Police have unearthed alleged disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 2 crore from a cooperative society's manager, posted at Barghat area here, a senior official said today.
A 15-member team started conducting simultaneous raids at the residence of Satyanaryan Baghel at Sajanwada village and two other places namely Gurrapatha and Chidia Palari associated with him yesterday, which concluded today.
"Police recovered details of properties including three houses, an 8-acre farmhouse, agriculture lands ad-measuring 30-acre at eight different places, investment details of Rs five lakh, cash worth Rs six lakh lying in various bank accounts, a car, a jeep, a tractor, a pick-up van and three bikes," Deputy Superintendent of Police H P Choudhry said.
Baghel had joined the cooperative society in 1987 as a salesman on a salary of Rs 600 per month. He was later promoted as accountant and then as manager.
The officer said that going by Baghel's current monthly salary of Rs 8,000 he should not have more than Rs 15 lakh in his kitty. "But the total value of his assets is nearly Rs two crore," he said.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against Baghel and further investigation is underway.
