Inaugurating a workshop on 'road safety' organised by the traffic police here, he said, Puducherry was witnessing an increase in registration of vehicles, particularly two-wheelers.
A few year ago, about 1500 vehicles of various types were registered per month, but it had now shot up to 5000 per month, he noted.
"Two wheelers outnumber other vehicles from the point of registration in Puducherry," he said.
"Traffic management was not just the concern of traffic police. PWD, Local Administration and Town Planning departments also had to play a pro active role in fulfilling the task," he added.
Experts in traffic management from Puducherry and New Delhi also spoke at the event.
