Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today flagged off a new fleet of 24 DMRC feeder buses to ply on four new State Transport Authority (STA) approved routes.
After the flag-off, the LG also visited the Maintenance Depot-cum-Workshop and DMRC's Training Institute in Shastri Park Train Depot.
"It is always an enlightening experience to visit any office/workshop of the DMRC, a world class facility that India is proud of," he said.
These buses will ply on the routes from 8 AM till 8 PM daily.
As per the fares approved by STA, the fare for journey up to four kms will be Rs five and beyond 4 kms upto 10 kms, fare will be Rs 10 (similar to DTC fares).
The routes which will be initially covered by these buses are Vishwavidyalaya metro station to Burari (ML 6), Vishwavidyalaya metro station to Gokalpuri metro (ML-51), Azadpur metro station to Kanhaiya Nagar metro station (ML-92) and Chhattarpur to Hauz Khas metro station (ML-72).
"These buses are a part of a new fleet of 400 buses that the DMRC is going to introduce on 80 STA approved routes in a phased manner within the coming year," DMRC Executive Director Corporate Communications Anuj Dayal said.
While 300 buses will be low floor, the remaining 100 will be standard floor. These buses will have a seating capacity of 26 persons.
These buses will be equipped with CCTV cameras and will be monitored through the Global Positioning System (GPS). Electronic display boards will prominently display the destinations on the buses.
"DMRC's smart cards will be valid for travel on these buses. The tendering procedure for the procurement of hand held validators for these smart cards is currently in progress. Two operators have been selected by DMRC for the operation of these buses," Dayal said.
There will be six home depots- Yamuna Bank, Chhattarpur, Paschim Vihar, Azadpur, Sudamapuri (Moti Nagar) and Inderlok for these buses.
An SMS-based information system has been started to give details about the feeder bus service to commuters.
to mobile no. 9968955370 to get live availability status of Metro feeder bus on mobile.

DMRC is currently operating a fleet of 117 buses on 14 routes across the city with an average ridership of 55,000. Maximum ridership of 67,565 was recorded on May 22 on these feeder buses.
There are five home depots--Shastri Park, Kohat Enclave, Janakpuri West, Dwarka Sec-10 and Chhattarpur.
"The addition of the new buses will be a major boost for commuters as most interior localities of the national capital will get connected with the nearby Metro stations by the feeder bus network," Dayal added.
