Lutron to double its revenue, expand sales network
Press Trust of India New Delhi US-based lighting control solutions provider Lutron Electronics is aiming to double its business in India in the next two years on the back of increased demand from residential and commercial sectors.
The company is expanding its network in the country to make its energy saving devices available at 1,000 points of sales by 2016.
Lutron has a network of 70 distributors in eight cities. Its product are available at 400-500 points of sales at present.
"We are looking to double the business in the next two years. The market is so new here for energy conservation ... there is significant potential," Lutron Electronics President Michael W Pessina told PTI.
"By 2016, we would have around 1,000 points of sales in India ... We are looking at new partners and new channels and we have a very aggressive goal on that. We have almost doubled the points of sales in the last one year," said Lutron Electronics Vice President, Global Sales, Ramin Mehrganpour.
When asked about its present business size in India, Mehrganpour said Lutron is family-owned business and as a practice the company does not disclose its financials.
A potential customer would be the hospitality industry, which includes hotels and restaurants, engineering firms and residential units, he said, adding, "We have solutions for every body."
The company, present in India for the last 15 years, is also doubling its headcount in a year. It developing its India centre as a point to serve the region.
"Our vision is that from India we would be able to even service other areas such as the Middle East and other parts of Asia and Australia. This service center was inaugurated in January this year," Mehrganpour said.
He declined to share investment details, but said plans are significant.
"We would develop case studies and advertise on hospitality magazines. We would also participate in road shows across the India and invite people from different segments," Mehrganpour said.
According to him, India has the largest potential outside the USA for energy saving products. The China market would be little ahead of India but the Indian side has tremendous potential.
He, however, not ruled out the possibility of any manufacturing unit in India saying that it would depend on the sales in the coming year. Presently, Lutron is importing majority of products from its US-based facility.
