"BJD Government is trying to spread lies and conceal the letters exchanged with Chhattisgarh on Kelo project on the upper reaches of Mahanadi river," BJP state unit vice president Sameer Mohanty told a press conference here.
Releasing copies of correspondence purportedly done between the two states on the Kelo project, he said these letters clearly show that the Naveen Patnaik government was fully aware of projects proposed on the river in Chhattisgarh 10 years ago.
"However, the BJD regime had kept the people in the dark. Odisha government denies having received communicating about projects on Mahanadi from Chhattisgarh in order to mislead people and derive political benefit," Mohanty alleged.
Noting that the letters produced by the party today were exchanged on July 14 and October 4, 2008, the BJP leader asked Odisha government to give up its ego and present facts before the people instead of playing politics.
Accusing the state government of harming the interest of the state because of its incompetence, Mohanty said at least now the government must work in the right direction to ensure that people of Odisha get their rights.
Odisha's interest would never be compromised so far as Mahanadi water was concerned, Mohanty said adding steps would be taken to ensure that Odisha get its due share of the river water without any cut also during non-monsoon season.
