East Delhi MP Maheish Girri today dismissed Congress' allegations that he violated model code of conduct by laying foundation stone of two schools in Okhla area here.
Congress has approached the Election Commission seeking action against the first time BJP Parliamentarian accusing him of violating the Model Code of Conduct which came into force as three assembly constituencies are going to bypolls.
Claiming that he did not violate the code of conduct, Girri said the functions were organised by the Education Department of Delhi Government and he was invited to them.
"The Education Department had organised it. I was not host of the programme. I had participated as they invited me. I have seen the EC guidelines and can say that I have not violated them," Girri said.
He said the provision of the model code of conduct applies to particular constituency and does not apply to the whole district.
Congress filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission saying Girri laid foundation stone of two schools situated in Madanpur Khadar in south east Delhi.
