"The Jalgoan court has convicted Raju Sonawane in a case relating to the murder of professor Vishram Girdhar Patil in Jalgaon", CBI said in a release here.
According to CBI, Patil, the then district president of Congress, had been killed in September 2005 near Manraj Park in Jalgaon. CBI had arrested four persons including Sonawane for the murder. The case was transferred to CBI in 2007 by the Bombay High Court.
The court framed charges against Sonawane and the trial commenced against him in October 2009.
The special court accepted CBI's case and convicted and sentenced Sonawane to life imprisonment, the release said.
