Police said Pavadai (30) had married Nadhiya in 2013 and the couple have a child. A few weeks back she had left him and was living illegally with another man.
Pavadai had filed a case in the family court after police and district officials reportedly failed to take action on his complaint.
Today the woman came to the court with her paramour and his mother. On seeing them the husband flew into a fit of rage and hacked and seriously injured the two women, police said.
The women have been admitted to the government hospital here and their condition is stated to be serious.
The incident caused a flutter in the court as a large number of litigants were present there.
