The accused identified as Swamidayal Jaikaran Verma, (47) alias Lambu alias Rappal was taken into custody on August 17 from Uttar Pradesh and was placed under arrest two days later, Senior Police Inspector Nitin Thackeray of Thane Crime Unit-I said.
According to police, the accused had killed his own colleague, 24-year-old Kripashankar Pathak, over a dispute of Rs 500 that he had lent to the victim. The victim's body had been recovered from May 26, 2016.
On May 26, the victim was found dead near the Kalikamata temple at Kalwa. The victim had been attacked on his head with an iron pipe. At that time, police were clueless about the killer and an offence under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) had been registered.
The crime branch officials, who were probing the case, had received a tip-off that he was hiding at his relative's house at Gonda in UP.
"The police team from Thane headed to UP and nabbed the accused from the house of his brother in law where he was in hiding at Shispur in Gonda district of UP.
Further investigation is on.
