Man held with antique idol

A businessman was nabbed with a 15th Century idol, worth around Rs one crore in the international market, when he was trying to sell it illegally in Kulsumpura area of the city, the police said today.
The 'dwar palak' idol made of 'ashtadhatu' (eight metals mixed together), belonging to the dynasty of Sri Krishnadevaraya, was seized from one N Venkateswara Rao, who hails from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, near a hotel in the locality last evening, the Hyderabad Police said in a release.
After receiving the idol from his friend, Rao was camping in Hyderabad for the last three months in search of buyers.

"Based on a specific information, he was apprehended by police last evening when he was in search of customers to sell it," the police said, adding that the price of idol in the international market is estimated at Rs 1 crore.
