"No material is available with the government to confirm the presence of infiltrators in the state," Mukul Sangma told the Assembly on the concluding day of the three-day Autumn Session today.
According to the statistics provided by the Chief Minister, the government has found 12,321 people who sneaked into Meghalaya from across inter-state border with Assam and international border with Bangladesh.
He said the government pushed back 11,644 foreign nationals during the period between 2008 and 2012.
Sangma informed that out of the detected infiltrators, 697 of them were prosecuted and 564 were deported back to their places of origin.
The state has a 433-km-long International border with Bangladesh and 696 km interstate border with Assam.
"Those who claim they were from Assam were sent back to their place of origin, while those who entered from the southern border were deported back to Bangladesh," he told reporters after the Assembly.
