Mercury continues to hover above normal in parts of north

Mercury continued to hover above normal levels in many parts of North India today even as the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh groaned under bitting cold wave.
Warm sunny weather prevailed during the day in Delhi as mercury continued to hover above normal levels.
While the minimum temperature settled five notches above the normal at 14 degrees Celsius, the maximum was recorded three notches above the season's average at 28.1 degrees Celsius, the MeT department said.
In Punjab and Haryana too, the minimum temperatures stayed above normal levels. Amritsar was the coldest place in the two states with a minimum of 6.1 degrees Celsius.

Among other places in Punjab, Ludhiana recorded a low of 7 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal. Patiala recorded minimum at 11.5 degrees, three degrees above normal.
The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a low of 11 degrees, four notches above normal while its maximum was 27.2 degrees, up by three notches.

In Haryana, Ambala had a low of 11.8 degrees, four points above normal while Bhiwani, Hisar and Karnal recorded minimum at 10.5, 11.2 and 9.9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Maximum temperatures in both Punjab and Haryana hovered between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the high altitude tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh reeled under intense cold wave conditions.

In state capital Shimla, the minimum temperature stood at 9 degrees Celsius and the maximum was recorded at 18.2 degrees.
