Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, was lashed by heavy rains (43.4 mm) during the day. The maximum temperature here settled at 35.5 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal limits, a MeT Department report said here.
In Punjab, Amritsar was lashed by 20 mm rain and the maximum temperature in the holy city settled at 36.4 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal limits.
Ludhiana, which received light rain, recorded a high of 34.6 degrees Celsius, down by three notches while Patiala's maximum settled at 36.7 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal limits.
In Haryana, Karnal, which received light rain, recorded a high of 32.8 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal limits.
Ambala's maximum temperature settled at 35.8 degrees Celsius, down two degrees, after being lashed by light rain.
Hisar recorded a high of 38.8 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal.
Gurgaon, Kurukshetra, Panchkula, Kalka and Yamunanagar in Haryana were also lashed by rain.
According to the MeT forecast, rain/thunder showers are likely to occur at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana.
