Mercury dips in Odisha, heatwave continues on western region
Maximum temperatures dipped by three to four degrees C in some districts. "Some places have also experienced pre-monsoon rain during the last 24 hours," said Sarat Sahu, director of the local meteorological office.
The state capital which registered a temperature of 46.6 degree C yesterday today got slight relief with the mercury level dipping to 42 degree C, a sharp drop of more than four degrees.
Titlagarh and Sonepur recorded 44 degree C each followed by 43.5 degree C each at Hirakud and Phulbani. Malkangiri also recorded 43 degree C.
Other places which recorded temperature above 40 degree C were Angul (42.1), Bhawanipatna (42.5), Jharsuguda (41.6), Sundergarh (41) and Keonjhar (40.1).
Coastal town of Puri, Paradip and Gopalpur registered temperature below 34 degree C.
While withdrawing heatwave warning, the weather office predicted rain and thundershower at few places in north and southern parts of the state.
