Minor girl alleges torture& harassment by guardian couple

A six-year-old girl was allegedly tortured and harassed for some months by her aged guardian couple at Udayampalayam area in the city, police said.
The matter came to light after Priya, a first standard student in a corporation school, complained to her teacher today and said she did not want to go back home as they were allegedly torturing her.
The teacher later filed a complaint with police who summoned the woman for questioning. However the old man was absconding fearing action, police said, adding he had once been beaten up by locals on the charge of harassing a minor girl.

Police said the girl's father had recently married another woman after his wife died a few months ago. Fearing that his daughter would be ill treated by her stepmother and that he would face problems in his marital life, he had entrusted her to their care.
