A 73-year-old property dealer and money lender was allegedly murdered by two men in Central Delhi's Shanti Van area here last night for charging high interest rates.
One person has been arrested in connection with the incident and efforts are on to nab his accomplice. They had allegedly murdered the deceased because he was charging a substantially high rate of interest on the money he owed to them, police said.
The deceased, identified as Naresh Kumar Bansal, was a resident of Laxmi Nagar area and worked as a property dealer and money lender in Chandni Chowk area.
The incident came to light around 1 AM when the body was found in a pool of blood just a few metres away from Gate number-1 of Shanti Van.
"The body was lying in the service lane with his throat slit. Bansal worked as a property dealer in Chandni Chowk and had on Monday evening gone to a hospital in the area with his son," said a senior police official.
Bansal had an appointment with a doctor in Daryaganj area. His son was with him as well. His son later dropped him near a bus stand and left for his work where Bansal was supposed to meet the person whom he owed money, he added.
The attackers had killed him with a motorcycle accelerator wire and tried to dress it up as a case of robbery as his mobile phone and wallet were found missing.
A case of murder was registered at Daryanganj police station.
Police did not reveal the identity of the accused as they are looking for his accomplice in the case.
