The victim was having dinner at home when three men called him him out and fired at him last night, Superintendent of Police, Y S Ramesh, said.
He was rushed to the district hospital, from where he was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi.
The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained yet, he said adding further investigation was on.
The attack on Ram followed the killing of a Mukhiya of Hydernagar Panchayat in Medininagar last week.
