Naidu chants innovation mantra; to focus on electronics & IT

Andhra Pradesh Government would focus on electronics and IT industry in the next few years as it aims to create jobs for five lakh people, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said today.
The State is working towards formulating new policies for IT, electronics and innovation to meet different needs in technology sector, he said, speaking at convocation of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) here.
"The new IT policy would emphasise on the need for mega infrastructure, quality human resources and good governance," a release from the Advisor (Communications) to AP Government quoted him as saying at the function.

He said start-ups will get a major boost in the upcoming innovation policy. Focus would also be on companies using SMAC (social media, mobile, analytics and cloud and IOT (Internet of Things) technologies.
He said society must be driven by innovation. "A small city like Tel Aviv (in Israel) stands second only to Silicon Valley in degree of innovation. We, too, can create innovation -driven cities given the abundant talent and entrepreneurship we have in AP."
Naidu said his vision is to develop Andhra Pradesh into a knowledge society of a global repute, with a focus on enhancing the quality of life of its citizens through high- quality education and incorporating technology.

The Government would support setting up of premier IT institutes in AP in partnership with top firms and foreign varsities. It would focus on fabless semi-conductor industry, manufacturing of electronic goods and components, he said.

In an effort to give impetus to technical education, colleges with under-graduate courses in software, electronics and computer science should make internship mandatory in final year of the course, the Chief Minister maintained.
He advised students to not only focus on classroom teaching but also develop skills to come up with innovations. "If students focus on skill development, India can rise to global standards and stay on par with China and the USA."

Comparing India's skill sets with China, the CM said the neighbouring country has grown into a manufacturing hub. India, too, has talent and human resources to reach that spot.
Students should not only look for jobs but also create jobs for others. Given the increasing use of Internet in India, there is a need to make technology available even to the poorest of the people.
