About 3.5 lakh cases were today settled in the National Lok Adalats held at all levels ranging from district to high courts across the country.
The National Lok Adalat, organised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) along with the respective State Legal Services Authorities, dealt with cases ranging from criminal, compoundable, recovery, cheque bounce, motor accident claims, family and matrimonial disputes, labour disputes, land acquisition, sales tax, income tax and others.
"As per the figures received till 5.00 PM, more than 3.5 lakh cases, including 1.9 lakh pending and 1.6 lakh pre-litigation cases, have been settled. The total value of the settlement amount reached today is Rs 1,185 crores," NALSA said in a press statement.
"The National Lok Adalat greatly benefited the common man and it has been achieved because of the legal services authorities/committees and the cooperation of the state governments and local administration, apart from the financial institutions.
"The aim is to reduce pendency as well as prevent additional litigation swathing the courts, where settlements are possible," the statement added.
