Navy trainee officer dies after shooting himself

A Naval press release said that the officer, Arun Kumar (27), a Sub Lieutenant, was resting in his room when he shot himself. The officer died of "self-inflicted" bullet injury, it said.

Kumar hails from Chennai and was part of a quick reaction group of INS Dronacharya. He joined the Navy as sailor in 2003 and was commissioned as officer early this year.

A Board of inquiry has been ordered into the incident, the release said.
