National Cadet Corps has "refined" its training regime for cadets by focusing on soft skills and personality development to accommodate the "changing aspirations of youth and expectations of the society", its Director General Lt Gen Aniruddha Chakravarty said today.
For this, he said, NCC has youth exchange programme with 10 countries where various activities like desert safari, yachting regatta and 'shivaji' trail trek were conducted in 2013.
"Training philosophy of the cadets has been refined to accommodate the changing aspirations of our youth and expectations of the society. The focus was to facilitate soft skills and personality development of the cadets," he said.
He said the NCC Republic Day camp has begun from January 1 and as many as 2,070 cadets, including 702 girls, drawn from all states and Union Territories are participating in this.
This includes 102 cadets from Jammu and Kashmir and 156 cadets from North Eastern Region (NER), NCC said in a statement, adding that these cadets are selected through a tough selection process.
"The cadets attending the camp follow an intense schedule over the month participating in a number of activities like cultural, national integration awareness programme and institutional training competitions," it said.
In order to accommodate the additional two lakh cadets, five Group Headquarters, fifty Army units, five air units and five naval units are being raised in five phases from 2010-11 till 2016-17, it said.
