NDMC invites 'smart public toilets' designs from public

Vying for the 'smart city' tag, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to go for a public competition for selecting the design for its proposed 'smart public toilets', in which local residents can also participate.
Residents, consultants, architectural firms, students can apply for the competition, offering comprehensive design required for smart features such as renewable energy, LED, digital display panel and pharmacy, a senior NDMC official said.
Transforming public toilets into a 'smart public amenities centre' is one of the areas highlighted by the civic body in its 'Smart City' proposal to the Centre.
According to the draft, the proposed centre will include ATMs, pathology labs, e-commerce centre, with rooftop carrying source of renewable energy.

"In response to the 'Swachh Bharat Mission' launched by the government, NDMC has decided to go for a public competition for smart public toilet in its areas," the official said.
"It (design) should specify the consumables and power requirement of the proposed design. It should mention the assessed life of the designed component and should include a plan for disposal of waste or environment impact, if any," he said.

"There are many heritage buildings and monuments in the NDMC area, and the design should gel with the surroundings," he added.
Last date for submission of entries is December 31 and three winners will be chosen, who will get cash prizes worth Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 successively.

The applicants should also provide cost assessment of the proposed design for set up and operation, the official said.
