According to officials, 80 members of the NDRF arrived even as 40,000 cusecs of water was let into the Thamirabarani river.
Several bridges across the river have got submerged and low lying areas in Tuticorin and Tiruneveli continued to be inundated.
Most dams, including Papanasam and Manimuthaaru, have reached full level and excess water was being let into Thamirabarani river.
Officials said the Agasthiar, Courtallam, Manimutharu and Kalyanatheertham waterfalls were in torrents.
Police said two teams would be engaged in relief operations in Tirunelveli and three teams at Tuticorin.
