Speaking at a seminar here on international terrorism and human rights, the minister of state in the PMO said all over the world, terrorism is hampering the growth and such activities are a cause of concern not only in India but also in developed countries like the US and others.
"The UN discusses every year how to curb terrorism all over the world.
"We are surrounded by neighbours which are encouraging terrorism... It was found that Osama bin laden was hiding in Pakistan. It was then declared a terrorist state," he told the gathering.
"Take up the case of Rajiv Gandhi and Benazir Bhutto's assassinations ... It is because terrorism has no religion," he said, adding that without the support of people of the country, terrorism cannot be curbed.
Referring to the blasts in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad, he said, "They (terrorists) get training in Pakistan and then sneak into our country and create law and order problem in our country.
"Most of the energy of the government is being wasted in curbing the problem of terrorism and stopping these type of activities. We being the law makers of the country have to sit together and deal with the issue."
Addressing the gathering at the Harish Chandra Memorial International Lecture, Singapore Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon praised the manner in which India dealt with 26/11 attacks in which Ajmal Kasab, the sole terrorist captured, was hanged after due legal process.
Justice Menon, who was conferred with the International Jurist award at the seminar, also said that "international terrorism" is a major challenge for "international community" and where a person is terrorist for one country, he is a hero and a man of freedom for the other nation.
