The National Film Archives of India (NFAI) is looking at expanding its non-feature film collection and has written to defence organisations, ISRO and ICCR seeking rare footage and films available with them which should be preserved for posterity.
Officials said while the Pune-based NFAI has a large collection in the feature film section, it is now trying to expand its non-feature film section.
The NFAI has approached the defence forces and other organisations like Defence Research and Development Organisation, Indian Space Research Organisation, Indian Council for Cultural Research and State Film Development Corporations, offering to restore and archive rare war footage that they may have in their possession.
Letters have been written to the Defence Ministry seeking footage of films or other rare footage which may not be classified so that they can be digitised and preserved.
NFAI Director Prakash Magdum confirmed that they have approached various organisations seeking any such films and footage available with them.
One of the main objectives of NFAI is to trace, acquire and preserve for posterity the heritage of national cinema and a representative collection of world cinema.
Apart from feature films, NFAI also archives non-feature films, recordings, photographs, etc.
