The National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today emphasized the need for adopting a comprehensive policy for regularisation of daily wagers and casual labourers employed in various state departments since March 1994.
NMC president Subash Shastri appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Finance Minister A R Rather to amend the government order imposing a ban on the regularisation.
Addressing a workers' rally at the Green Belt Park in Gandhi Nagar, he said such an amendment should be effected on December 5, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Sheikh Mohd Abdullah, so that the new regularisation policy could become operational from January 1, as a "New Year Gift" to the working class.
Shastri hoped that the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister would sympathetically consider their demand.
He said most of the daily wagers working in various state departments had not been getting their wages on regular basis for many years and their working condition was dismal.
Pleading the cause of floriculture department employees, gardeners, helpers and mali-cum-clerks, Shastri demanded immediate reorganisation of the floriculture department.
Shastri said monthly emoluments of daily wagers should be raised to Rs 10,000 in view of sharp increase in prices of essential commodities.
