As the deadline looms for BSES entities to pay the dues to NTPC, the state-run power producer today said it is not fighting with the discoms but only looking to recover the money for electricity sold to them.
The Supreme Court, earlier this month, had directed Delhi's power power distribution companies - BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna - to pay Rs 690 crore to NTPC by May 31 for the power purchased since January this year.
Speaking at an event here, NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Arup Roy Choudhury said that his company was not fighting with BSES.
"NTPC is not fighting BSES. NTPC is just trying to generate power, a product which BSES is buying. BSES is the buyer... If you buy something from me, you have to pay for it... I pay for Coal India, I have to pay Railways whatever they demand," he said.
Choudhury mentioned about BSES issue while talking about NTPC and overall power sector in general.
On March 26, the Supreme Court had extended the February 7 interim order to NTPC that there would be no disconnection in the supply of electricity in furtherance to its notices to BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna on the issue of payment security mechanism and non-payment of outstanding dues to it.
In its notices to BSES discoms, NTPC, on February 4, had said it was in trouble and unless its dues were cleared, the company might have to stop power supply to them.
BSES Rajdhani distributes power to over 18.5 lakh consumers in south and west Delhi, including Alaknanda, Vasant Kunj, Saket, Nehru Place, Nizamuddin, Sarita Vihar, Hauz Khas, R K Puram, Janakpuri, Punjabi Bagh, Tagore Garden, Vikas Puri, Palam and Dwarka.
BSES Yamuna has 13.5 lakh customers in central and east Delhi, including Chandni Chowk, Daryaganj, Paharganj, Shankar Road, Patel Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Mayur Vihar and Yamuna Vihar.
