An allegedly notorious gangster wanted in a series of murders, dacoity and other heinous crimes in Western Uttar Pradesh has been arrested here, police said.
The accused identified as Sajid Thakur (36), a resident of Bulandshahr, in UP was nabbed yesterday from Okhla Mandi by the Special Staff of South-East district police.
"Following a tip-off, a trap was laid and at about 8.25 PM, Thakur was nabbed from Gate No 2, Okhla Mandi with a bag. When it was checked, two country-made pistols and 36 live cartridges of 0.315mm-bore each were found on it," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Mandeep Randhawa.
During interrogation, it was found that the accused was a declared gangster in Uttar Pardesh. He was found involved in more than 30 cases of murder, robbery and dacoity, police said.
On sustained interrogation, Thakur said that he had an apprehension that the UP police could have arrested him and hence he left the state and was trying to make Okhla Mandi his new base for operation.
Police has also recovered 140 grammes of robbed gold which he had deposited in a private firm.
