Odisha HC allows anticipatory bail plea of MLA's wife

The Odisha High Court today allowed the anticipatory bail application of Biramitrapur MLA George Tirkey's wife Namita Tirkey, whose name has appeared in an FIR filed by a 28-year-old woman alleging that she was raped by the MLA's son.
The women's police station in Rourkela earlier this month had booked the MLA's son Rakesh Tirkey (31) on the basis of the written complaint filed by the alleged victim.
While the MLA's name was not mentioned in the complaint, names of Namita and Rakesh appeared in the FIR.
Anticipating that they would be arrested, the two had approached the high court seeking advance bail. But Justice S C Parija allowed the plea of Namita directing the police that in the event of her arrest in the case, she shall be released on bail.

Rakesh's advance bail plea could not be taken up on the day due to paucity of time. The HC, however, directed the prosecution in the case to submit the case diary to the court during the puja vacations beginning from September 25 so that the matter could be taken up again after the vacation ends on October 3.
