The OST helps in achieving a comfortable level and the client stops injecting drugs which eventually prevents the potential harm of contracting HIV and other diseases transmitted through injecting routes as well, Deputy Commissioner R K Mishra said yesterday while inaugurating the centre.
Injecting drug through veins increases the risk of transmission of various life taking diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. So to avoid any such harm the center is basically established, commented Mishra.
While appreciating the role of NGOs, he appreciated the "Tribal Development Foundation" President Gegong Apang, its Project Director Karunath Pazing and the volunteers who are identifying the IDUs (Injecting Drug Users) in de-addiction process besides extending moral supports to them.
After several years of hard work, the OST was traced as one of the measures to control and reduce the prevalence of HIV and HIV risk behaviour among IDUs, he said.
